Regarding the design of ABS color masterbatch formula, special attention should be paid to the following matters:
1. Pigment content
The pigment content in the color master batch formula is determined based on customer needs and processing conditions. Based on the color difference requirements of the entire ABS household appliance product and the actual molding process conditions of the resin, the color master batch of ABS household appliances not only meets the customer’s color difference requirements, but also needs to consider the color difference control of the entire machine. By controlling the coloring ratio of the color masterbatch to 4:100, the pigment content in the color masterbatch was designed.
ABS products can be colored with solvent dyes, which have higher coloring power. When selecting solvent dye masterbatches, the addition ratio of masterbatches should not be too low.
When modulating ABS transparent color, it is necessary to choose ABS as the carrier. When using solvent dyes for coloring, in order not to affect the transparency of the colored product, please note that there are no products such as wetting agents, copolymer waxes, and stearates in the prescription.
2. Chemical structure of dispersants
The chemical structure of the dispersant used for ABS color masterbatch is very important. The stronger the polarity of the dispersant, the better its dispersion effect in pigments. The dispersant used for ABS color masterbatch is within the range of 2.5% to 5%. As the amount of dispersant increases, the dispersion effect of ABS color masterbatch pigment is enhanced, and a 5% addition is appropriate.
The double bond structure in ABS resin is prone to thermal oxidative decomposition, and the appropriate addition of antioxidants can significantly improve the color stability of the product. The antioxidant of ABS products can be used in combination with primary and secondary antioxidants.
ABS color masterbatch must choose a specialized resin as the carrier according to the requirements of product performance. ABS resin with a high degree of polymerization is usually used, but resin with a low degree of polymerization can also be used, with a melt index requirement that is equal to or above that of colored ABS resin. In this way, due to the increased fluidity, it is easy to disperse, especially for the ABS masterbatch used for coloring engineering plastics, which requires the use of high-strength ABS as a carrier.
3. Powder carrier
The ABS color masterbatch formula can choose a mixed carrier of powder and granular resin, and the powder carrier is mainly beneficial for the processing and preparation of color masterbatches.
ABS resin has water absorption, with a water absorption rate usually ranging from 0.3% to 0.4% in the warehouse. During the manufacturing process of the master batch, attention should be paid to keeping the exhaust port smooth, which can achieve a good particle appearance under appropriate vacuum negative pressure.
When coloring ABS, it is necessary to pay attention to significant differences in color before coloring different varieties of ABS resin. Even plastic products made with the same color masterbatch can have significant differences in color.
